Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) causes pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. The diagnosis can often be made by talking to your doctor but testing may be recommended for some patients. Treatment is tailored to each patients symptoms. Treatment may include dietary and lifestyle measures, fibre supplements and medications.

Heartburn and Reflux

Heartburn and reflux are common. Effective treatment with diet and lifestyle measures often with medication will improve symptoms in most people.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic inflammatory conditions of the bowel that can cause abdominal pain, diarrhoea and gastrointestinal bleeding. They can be debilitating conditions. Fortunately with current treatments long-term healing of the bowel is achievable.

Dr Stephen Tattersall is a gastroenterologist. He has expertise in diagnosing and treating people with problems arising from organs of the digestive tract including the oesophagus, stomach, small and large bowel, liver, bile ducts and pancreas. Patients with conditions affecting these organs may have symptoms including abdominal pain, indigestion, reflux, difficulty swallowing or eating, diarrhoea, constipation, bleeding from the bowel, unexplained weight loss and jaundice.
